PDF · DOCX · XLSX · CSV · TXT · MD · JSON · JPG/PNG

Your files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to TextAgo.

How to use

  1. Drop a file here or click to choose it.
  2. Scroll, zoom, or switch between pages and sheets.
  3. Copy the text or print what you need.

Someone sends you a PDF, a Word file or a spreadsheet and you are on a borrowed computer, a phone without the right app, or a locked-down work laptop. This free online document viewer opens PDF, DOCX, XLSX, XLS, CSV, TXT, Markdown, JSON and image files directly in your browser. You do not need Microsoft Office, you do not create an account, and the file is not uploaded to TextAgo.

Which file types can I open?

FormatWhat you getNotes
PDFPages drawn on screen, with zoom from 50% to 300%Pages load as you scroll, so large PDFs open quickly. Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened.
DOCX (Word)Text, headings, lists, tables and inline imagesLayout is simplified; headers, footers and complex page designs are not reproduced exactly.
XLSX, XLS, CSV, TSVTables with one tab per sheetShows up to 2,000 rows and 60 columns per sheet for speed.
TXT, MD, LOGPlain textShown exactly as written.
JSONPretty-printed with indentationInvalid JSON is shown as plain text.
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIFThe imageUse Image to Text if you need the words inside it.

Older Word files (.doc), PowerPoint (.pptx) and password-protected files are not supported. For a .doc, open it once in a word processor and save it as .docx.

How to open a document online — step by step

  1. Add the file. Drop it on the box or click to choose it from your phone, computer or cloud-storage app.
  2. Wait a moment. The first time you open a particular type, your browser loads a small open-source reader for it (for example the PDF or spreadsheet reader).
  3. Read. Scroll through the pages. For PDFs, use the + and − buttons to zoom; the toolbar shows the current page.
  4. Switch sheets. For workbooks, click the sheet tabs above the table.
  5. Copy or print. Copy text grabs the document’s text (for spreadsheets, as tab-separated rows). Print prints just the document area.
  6. Clear. The Clear button closes the file and returns you to the start.

Why use an online viewer instead of an app?

No installation

Installing an office suite for a one-minute task is overkill, and on shared or restricted computers it is often not allowed. A browser tab is enough.

Works on any device

Phones, tablets, Chromebooks and old laptops can all open a file here. The viewer adapts to the screen width.

Safer for quick checks

Previewing a file in a browser tab does not run macros or embedded programs. Spreadsheet and Word content is displayed as data, and DOCX content is cleaned of scripts before it is shown. Even so, only open files from sources you trust, and be careful with links inside documents.

Private by design

The file is read by your own browser. Many online converters upload documents to a server; this one does not.

Tips for reading PDFs comfortably

Tips for spreadsheets and CSV files

Everyday situations where a viewer helps

Checking an attachment before saving it

Open an invoice or a form to see whether it is the right one before downloading it to your device.

Reading a CV or an assignment on a phone

Recruiters and teachers often send DOCX files; a mobile-friendly viewer saves you from installing an app.

Reviewing data exports

Take a quick look at a CSV from an app or a bank statement before importing it anywhere.

Inspecting config or log files

Open .json, .log or .md files in a readable layout without a code editor.

Printing a single document cleanly

The print button hides the website and prints just the document.

Online viewer vs. cloud office suites

Services such as Google Drive or Microsoft’s online apps can also open documents, but they usually require you to sign in, and your file is uploaded to their servers first. That is convenient if you want to collaborate or edit, but it is more than you need to simply look at a file. A local viewer is quicker for one-off checks: nothing to log in to, nothing stored in a cloud account, and nothing left behind on a shared computer when you close the tab.

The trade-off is that a viewer cannot edit, comment or co-author. Think of it as a “peek” tool. When you need to change the content, copy the text into the TextAgo notepad, edit it there, and export the result as PDF, DOCX or TXT.

Opening files from your phone

On Android and iPhone, tap the drop box and choose Browse or Files. You can pick documents from the Downloads folder, your email app’s saved attachments, or connected cloud storage. If a file is inside a messaging app, save it to your phone first, then select it. For the best reading experience on a small screen, use portrait mode for Word documents and PDFs with normal text, and landscape mode for spreadsheets and wide tables. Pinch-zoom works on the page too, though the + and − buttons give you consistent steps for PDFs.

If you often receive long documents, a good routine is: open the file here, use Copy text, paste it into the Word Counter to see its length and reading time, and decide whether to read it now or later. For long text, the Text to Speech tool can read it aloud while you do something else.

Privacy and safety

Documents are opened inside your browser tab and are not uploaded to TextAgo. To display a file, the page downloads open-source reader libraries from a public content-delivery network; those requests do not include your file. If you copy text, it goes to your clipboard, which other apps on your device may be able to read. Treat unknown files with caution, as in any viewer: avoid clicking links in documents you did not expect, and do not enter passwords or personal details into forms inside a document.

Troubleshooting

“Something went wrong” when opening a file

The file may be damaged, password-protected or in an unsupported format (such as .doc or .pptx). Try another file, or convert it to PDF or DOCX first.

A Word file looks different from Word

The viewer focuses on readable content, not exact page design. Fonts, columns, headers and footers may differ.

A PDF page is blank or loads slowly

Very complex pages take longer to draw. Scroll a little to trigger loading, or reduce the zoom level.

Spreadsheet text is cut off

Scroll sideways inside the table; the viewer shows the full cell text without wrapping.
